Sacramento – Yesterday, as she began her second year of service in the legislature, California Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) was appointed to two key leadership positions.
Assemblymember Friedman was named the Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore of the Assembly by Speaker Anthony Rendon.
“I am honored to have been appointed by Speaker Anthony Rendon to serve as the Assistant Speaker pro Tempore. Being part of the leadership team is a new opportunity to further serve the people of my district and the State of California.”
She was also tapped as the Chair of the Joint Committee on Harassment Prevention and Response, a joint effort between the Assembly and the Senate tasked with creating bicameral reforms addressing how the legislature responds to incidents of harassment and retaliation in the Capitol.
“I have said it from the start - a bicameral, bipartisan approach is the only way we’ll see true reforms that make the Capitol community safer for all. We’ve got a lot of work to do, but we’re on our way.”
The formation of the Joint Committee was announced by Assembly Speaker Rendon and Senate Pro Tempore Kevin de Leon as the legislature reconvened on January 3, 2018. The committee is expected to hold its first meeting within the next few weeks.
Laura Friedman represents the 43rd Assembly District which encompasses the cities of Burbank, Glendale, and La Cañada Flintridge, as well as the communities of La Crescenta and Montrose, and the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Atwater Village, Beachwood Canyon, Los Feliz, East Hollywood, Franklin Hills, and Silver Lake.
