Hello Neighbor,
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Assemblywoman Luz Rivas, and I represent you in the California State Assembly!
I am thrilled to serve the 43rd Assembly District in California for the next two years. In 2018, I was humbly elected and sworn into the California State Assembly, and it makes me extremely proud to represent a community that has given me so much.
I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and attended LA Unified schools, where I took interest in technology and engineering. Upon my high school graduation, I attended MIT and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Years later, I graduated with a Masters of Education from Harvard and decided to return to California and give back to my community.
I founded a nonprofit, DIY Girls, which provided enrichment programs focused on encouraging young girls to pursue careers in science, engineering, and technology. Mayor Eric Garcetti also appointed me to the Los Angeles Board of Public Works in 2016.
I am honored to have represented the San Fernando Valley for the last four years, and I remain committed in ensuring our district and community members get the funds and resources needed to thrive.

Budget Victory for the 43rd Assembly District
This year, I secured $5 million for The Great Wall of Los Angeles to develop an interpretive green bridge along the mural, a much-anticipated expansion of the mural, refurbishing of existing artwork, which will span a mile in length, and feature new art from present history.

It is the season of giving! Please join me at my annual Holiday Party and Toy Drive with legislative updates. I will be collecting new, unwrapped toy donations that will be given to the Child Care Resource Center for children in need in the San Fernando Valley.

California IDs for All
As a legislator who embraces inclusivity for all Californians, I am proud to have co-authored Assembly Bill (AB) 1766, which will improve ID access for everyone, regardless of immigration status.
Individuals will be able to access resources such as opening bank accounts, receiving benefits, getting access to healthcare, finding housing, and much more, that they would not be able to access otherwise without this proof of identification. This extension will encourage inclusivity for the approximately 1.6 million unauthorized individuals who currently do not qualify for California IDs.
Residents can apply for a California ID at the DMV without submitting proof of their lawful presence in the United States beginning no later January 1, 2027.
COVID-19 Rental Protections
In October, the Los Angeles City Council voted to end COVID-19 rental protections for tenants beginning January 2023. Renters have until February 2024 to pay their accumulated rent.

Por favor permíteme presentarme. ¡Soy la asambleísta Luz Rivas y los represento en la Asamblea del Estado de California!
Estoy encantada de servir en el Distrito 43 de la Asamblea en California durante los próximos dos años. En 2018, fui humildemente elegida y jurada en la Asamblea del Estado de California, y me enorgullece enormemente representar a una comunidad que me ha dado tanto.

Victoria presupuestaria para el 43º Distrito de la Asamblea
Este año, aseguré $5 millones para La Gran Muralla de Los Ángeles para desarrollar un Puente verde interpretativo a lo largo del mural, una expansión muy esperada del mural, la renovación de la obra de arte existente, que se extenderá una milla de longitud, y contará con arte nueva de la historia actual.

Identificaciones de California para Todos
Como legisladora que apoya la inclusión de todos los californianos, me enorgullece anunciar que soy coautor de AB 1766, que mejorará el acceso a la identificación para todos, independientemente de su estatus migratorio.
Las personas podrán acceder a recursos como abrir cuentas bancarias, recibir beneficios, obtener acceso a atención médica, encontrar vivienda y mucho más con esta prueba de identificación y residencia a la que no podrían acceder de otra manera. Esta extensión fomentará la inclusión de aproximadamente 1,6 millones de personas no autorizadas que actualmente no califican para las identificaciones de California.
Residentes pueden solicitar una identificación de California en el DMV sin presentar prueba de su presencia legal en los Estados Unidos a partir del 1 de enero de 2027 a más tardar.
Protecciones de Alquiler COVID-19
En octubre, el Concejo de la Ciudad de Los Angeles votó para terminar protecciones de alquiler COVID-19 para arrendatarios a partir de enero de 2023. Los inquilinos tienen hasta febrero de 2024 para pagar alquiler acumulado.
