(SACRAMENTO) - Luz Rivas (D-Arleta) took the oath of office to serve as the Assemblymember for the 39th Assembly District today in a special ceremony at the California State Capitol. The oath was administered by Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon. The 39th Assembly District incorporates the communities in and around Arleta, Lake View Terrace, Granada Hills, Mission Hills, North Hollywood, Pacoima, Sun Valley, Sunland-Tujunga, Sylmar and San Fernando.

Assemblymember Luz Rivas is an engineer, educator and public servant who has proven her dedication to ensure that every Californian has the opportunity to learn, prosper and succeed.
With a Bachelor's degree from MIT and a Master's from Harvard, Luz has focused on encouraging young girls to pursue careers in science, engineering and technology. The founder of DIY Girls, (a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping girls become interested in math and science), Luz has helped set thousands of young women on the path towards economic empowerment, independence and self-confidence.
