(SACRAMENTO) – Assemblywoman Luz Rivas (D- Arleta), member of the Assembly Budget Committee, has issued the following statement on Governor Newsom’s budget release:
“It is exciting to see that the Governor is being fiscally responsible by paying down debt and investing in our state’s Rainy Day Fund, yet willing to invest in critical programs that will undoubtedly benefit all Californians. The Governor has proposed a well thought out budget that seeks to address a number of key issues by:
-
Investing in early childhood education, state pre-schools and full day kindergarten;
-
Providing funding for two years of free community college;
-
Alleviating homelessness and poverty;
-
Building new affordable housing;
-
Increasing access to healthcare;
-
Expanding Medi-Cal to approximately 138,000 low-income undocumented adults, which will save the state millions;
-
Furthering investments into our Rainy Day Fund, bringing its total to $18.5 billion;
-
Substantially raising CalWorks grant limits; and,
-
Raising Earned Income Tax Credit levels to help low income working families.
I look forward to working with the Governor, Assembly Budget Chair Phil Ting, and my colleagues to develop a state budget that continues to reflect the values of all Californians.”
