SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblywoman Luz Rivas (D-Arleta) was appointed as the Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on the Non-Profit Sector by Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood). The Committee is comprised of 11 members with the goal of assisting the non-profit sector by evaluating their economic significance to the State and their programs to improve the social well-being of millions of Californians.
Non-profits serve as a critical partner to the State of California. In many cases, non-profits are trusted messengers that serve the most vulnerable communities, as they have incorporated cultural competencies and language access into their services. California’s non-profits have stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic without hesitation to continue serving their communities, protect public health, and support their employees.
“I am honored that Speaker Rendon has appointed me as the Chair of the Select Committee on the Non-Profit Sector,” said Assemblywoman Luz Rivas. “As a founder of a non-profit, I immediately understood the disruption that the pandemic had on community-based organizations and for the people they serve. This is why I led 30 of my colleagues in an effort to ensure that our non-profits were included in the State’s financial relief package. While we were successful in our efforts, we still have a lot of work to do, and have a long way to go before our economy recovers. However, I am ready to advocate for non-profits, the backbone of our communities.”

Assemblywoman Luz Rivas proudly represents the 39th Assembly District, which includes the City of Los Angeles communities of Arleta, Lake View Terrace, Granada Hills, Mission Hills, North Hollywood, Pacoima, Sun Valley, Sunland-Tujunga, Sylmar, and the City of San Fernando.
