LA Daily News: Not so fast, high-speed rail was not canceled for San Fernando Valley despite what Gov. Newsom said

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s comments this week on California’s high-speed rail project have led to some confusion in Los Angeles, where several routes for the southern portion have been proposed in communities like Sylmar, Sun Valley, Lake View Terrace and Sunland-Tujunga.

During his state of the state speech on Tuesday, Newsom put an emphasis on completing the Central Valley portion between Merced and Bakersfield, while casting doubt on the project reaching any further north or south.

Lawmakers Announce Audit of Student Homelessness Data

Audit will investigate why over one-quarter of California schools report having zero homeless students enrolled despite high rates of homelessness across the state


Sacramento, CA--Assemblymembers David Chiu (D-San Francisco) and Luz Rivas (D-Arleta) announced today they are requesting an audit of local school districts to examine why student homelessness may be going unreported or underreported throughout California. The audit will analyze why over one-quarter of California schools report that they have no homeless students enrolled and as a result, are not providing any state- or federally-mandated services to students experiencing homelessness.

Assemblywoman Luz Rivas to Assist California’s Homeless Families

Assemblywoman Rivas leads the charge to aid homeless families through new funding, housing, and services

(SACRAMENTO) –Assemblywoman Luz Rivas has been convening stakeholder meetings with California State Agencies, the County of Los Angeles and Advocates to discuss issues impacting homeless families. It quickly became clear that funding targeted for homeless families should be a top priority. “This is why I plan on funding and restructuring a long dormant program that was established as a result of Proposition 1C, of 2006, to incentivize the development of multifamily housing for homeless families,” Rivas said.
